EMMAH HANNAH
Wayfaring Stranger
ONE STOP ENTERTAINMENT
Many will remember Emma Hannah
from her many television appearances,
including The Don Lane Show, The
Ernie Sigley Show, and Reg Lindsay's
Country Homestead. Emma was an
integral part of the folk movement of
the 1960s and 70s, but her beautiful
classically trained voice has adapted to
many styles of music, and that includes
country. In other circumstances this 15
track CD might be dismissed as a
covers album, however Emma takes
well known songs like Phil Collins'
Another Day In Paradise, or Paul
Simon's Slip Slidin' Away and makes
them her own. Henry Lawson's
Andy's Gone With Cattle and the
beautiful O Waly Waly (The Water Is
Wide) have never sounded better than
on this recording, however, my pick of
he songs are the traditional Negro
spiritual, All My Trials, and the
gorgeous Amazing Grace, which are
both sung by Emma with clarity and dignity.
The talented Bob Howe is not only the producer of this delightful album, he did arrangements for the songs, and played guitar. I was cranky and stressed when I started listening to Wayfaring Stranger, but by the time the album had finished I was a much calmer and nicer person!
